I go into detail about my journey on my About page, but to give you some context, here’s a summary. In 2020, I had been working in the corporate world for a few years. After a major project went wrong in Hungary, the situation between the team and the manager(s) deteriorated even further. Tensions within the company were palpable at all levels—structural, organizational, and managerial. The management failed to handle the conflict, which had been brewing for months, leaving the team powerless in the face of the crisis. It was at that moment that I decided to pursue training to become a certified Mediator. I couldn’t blame management for not knowing how to handle the conflict if I didn’t have the tools myself.

As the work situation became increasingly difficult (lack of communication, high team turnover, resignations…), this training had a massive impact on my communication, relationships, and work.

My experience in this company was not an isolated case. I traveled frequently to meet our collaborators in production plants. Almost all of them mentioned having a work environment filled with tensions between management and the team. Despite being excellent in their field, the managers hadn’t received training in handling workplace crises. They were left to rely on their own knowledge. But know that conflict management skills can be learned. Human skills (soft skills) are not innate and can be developed.

Without giving them the proper tools, how can we blame them? Management and leadership teams must be able to initiate change.

Becoming Mediator has been life-changing.

When you master conflict management tools, imagine yourself embodying a Jedi Master. Taking a course in conflict management is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself for your well-being (and honestly, this applies to both work and family life).

Conflict management skills take us to a higher realm of self-mastery. This doesn’t mean that conflict situations won’t affect us, but we learn how to navigate them with grace. We don’t « control » the situation; we master it.

Scroll through the comment history and observe the number of aggressive or disrespectful remarks. I’m not making this up; just look around you. Tensions are intensifying and are very palpable. Moreover, as the years go by, the overall situation (society, business, global) increasingly calls for the need for conflict management.

The problem? In companies, managers, employees, collaborators, and contractors are not effectively trained to handle conflict situations. Additionally, the generational gap within the same team often seems to complicate communication, generating even more tension.

I believe it has become essential for everyone to have access to conflict management training to foster long-term harmony and prosperity in all areas of life.

We live in a society that has been immersed in personal development for many years, and yet the culture of blame remains strong. I invite you to observe the headlines and pay attention to the information spread widely. Most people are quick to point fingers, looking outward for someone to blame, seeking to find answers to their troubles and to ease their anger, disappointment, and frustration. As a result, tensions intensify, creating a vicious cycle where one conflict leads to another.

I strongly feel that mastering conflict resolution is essential in the world we live in today.

    Managing conflict means mastering the ability to take enough emotional and psychological distance to analyze possible solutions. It also involves staying constructive despite the discomfort that tensions may create.

    In my view, Nonviolent Communication is a good starting point for managing conflict.
